April 14th, 2019 - Grade 4 (PM Sunday)

Hari Om parents,

We started our afternoon session with opening prayer, Guru stotram and Krishna ashtakam.

Our 24 teachers topic's riddle this week was, 'I am woolly in the beginning and wrapped inside a cocoon, only to come out in flying colors. Who am I?' and the kids gave the correct answer, Larva of the butterfly.
The moral that Larva teaches us is that you become what you think of. When one identifies oneself to something with love, hate or fear, one becomes that. A larva stays in the cocoon for a long time thinking of the beautiful butterfly and finally turns into one.
We explained to that kids that just mere thinking without action will not fetch any results. Setting goals and working hard to achieve them is what makes a difference between an average and an extra ordinary person. We talked about the story of Chery Prewitt who was Miss.America in 1980.When she was four years old she used to visit her father's country side grocery store and everyday a milkman would come and greet her saying,'Hey, My beautiful Miss America'.Those words were etched so much in her mind that she dreamed of becoming one and worked hard for it and eventually was crowned in 1980.
There are future Doctors, Computer scientists, Engineers and a few undecided in our class who are in the process of selecting what to become :-)

Krishna's story this week was about his best friend Sudama during his Gurukula days. After the slaying of Kamsa, Krishna and Balarama attended Gurukula to pursue education in Vedas, grammer, astronomy under the guidance of Guru Sandipani. Kids had a big doubt of whether they learned Science and Math just as in their schools :-)
Sudama was poor and lived on charity. HE , his wife and their children did not enough to eat but he was always content in his life. His wife once asked him to got to Lord Krishna and seek help for money. Sudama disheartingly agreed to go to Bhagwan, not for help but to meet him as it has been a long time. His wife gave him some beaten rice to offer it to Bhagawan as a token of his love for him. Sudama met his friend, Lord Krishna, who was extremely happy to see him and took him inside his palace. Bhagawan asked Sudama if he had brought him any gift, though he was well aware of the beaten rice. Hesitant and shy Sudama gave him the packet and Krishna eagerly ate a couple of handfuls of it saying that it was the tastiest thing he had ever eaten.
The next morning Sudama bid farewell to the lord and went to his village only to feel surprised and shocked at the sight of the magnificent palace in place of impoverished hut. There after he and his family lived happily and meditated upon the lord constantly. The moral that you learn from this story is how God never forgets his devotees and always blesses them in time of need.

We do not have Balavihaar next week. Enjoy your SPRING BREAK!
