3/26/19

March 10, 17 and 25, 2019 KG (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents, Swamiji, and Coordinators,

As March was a busy month, I am combining 3 classes information in this email.

March 10, 2019
We sang Bolo Bolo Sab Mil Bolo and Namah Parvathi Pathaye Hara Haraagain to reinforce the songs.
We continued the alphabet safari with S is for Smile and brainstormed extensively about the advantages and disadvantages of a smile.  We discussed what happens to us when we smile and also when we do the opposite. We completed the activity : To find the hidden smiles, and also read the story of the little girl Lisa whose million dollar smile changed their difficult situation into a happy one!

We continued and learnt that T stands for Truth-we must always tell the truth, why must we tell the truth were some of the idea we discussed. We narrated the story of the shepherd boy who cried "wolf wolf "when there was none and when the wolf actually did come, no one came to help him because he had lied before.
We also discussed how it is more difficult to lie and easier to tell the truth and to hide one lie we would have to lie again and again and it would turn into a vicious circle.

March 17, 2019

We did our daily prayers beginning with Om Chanting and completed U for Unity. We explained the strength of unity through the story of the 4 cows who when they stood together were able to face the hungry lion, but when they got angry with one another and scattered the lion attacked one of them and hurt them. They then realized how important it was for them to always stay together.
In order to give the children a break from the routine class we decided to have an afternoon showing them cartoons depcting qualities that we discussed in class.

We started with watching a cartoon movie of the story of Krishna and Sudama, in order to demonstrate to the children the concept of friendship that they had learnt earlier. The cartoon depiction further drove home the idea that when there is love and kindness a deep understating and friendship can develop just as it did between Krishna and Sudama.

We also started watching the story of Ramayana, and reached the part where Lord Rama was required to leave Ayodhya in banishment  for 14 years to the forest and the attitude of humble acceptance that he demonstrated showing undying devotion and obedience to his father.

The above 2 cartoons depicted F is for Friendship and O is for Obedience, and the children were able to identify both after the movie was completed. We also provided the children with a snack and juice and the children had an enjoyable time.

March 24, 2019

After opening prayers and meditation, we continued to practice the bhajans, and learnt a new slokha-Mano Japam and completed alphabet V for Victory. As the weather was good, we went out to the verandah and demonstrated V by completing the game of running to the wall etc. The kids enjoyed being out and completed the activity. They understood that everyone can achieve victory by setting goals.
We narrated the story of the handicapped children and the demonstration of love and concern for one another is also a sign of victory. Also, the story of Harischandra who was victorious in giving up everything he had to keep the word of the Guru, as he considers that to be the most sacred.

We continued with W for Work, explaining why we should work , the importance of being proud of any work that is given to us. We concluded the class narrating the story of the Ant and the grasshopper , and how the ants hard work helped him and ultimately helped the grasshopper too!

Important Announcement:
The theme for Annual Day is Krishna Leela!  This year it is on June 8, rain date is June 9,2019.
