Re: Sunday Morning Grade 4 Balavihar Class
Dear Parents,
We had our 9th Balavihar session on Sunday, Nov. 11th. Our next class will be on Sunday November 18th.
Our class started at 9:15 with Prayers and Meditation. We had 21 students in class today.
Our discussion points for this week:
1. Reviewed our discussion from last class about Vishnu
2. Watched a movie about Krishna and how defeated the evil Poothana.
3. Geetha Chanting with Swami Shantananda (verses 47-48). We also, made a video recording of the class chanting verses 41-42. This will help the Krishna's Cowboys's house earn 200 points! The class will also receive valuable feedback from the Vrindavan Geetha Chanting experts who will review their video. Please continue to practice chanting at home, as we will continue this video exercise in each of the upcoming classes. We will add 2 more verses each week.
4. We shared a story from the Balavihar Magazine about virtues of hard work and the trouble with overconfidence. (Note: While a few children knew about the Balavihar Magazine, many of the children did not what it was. As registered members of our program, you should all be receiving this monthly magazine at your home. It comes wrapped in a partially transparent plastic envelope. This is a very popular with this age group as it has stories written at their level, cartoons, jokes etc.
Preparing for next\ week:
1. Our 4th grade students will be leading Arti on Sunday morning. We will do some last minute practice in class but It will be great if they can get some additional practice at home. We start with Chinmaya Arti and end with the Pledge. We discussed this during last Sunday's class and hopefully the children are already practicing. All the words can be found in the Balavihar handbook. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
2.. Read ahead and read out loud, the following stories: Gokula, Poothana and Trinavatra. We use popcorn reading to engage the students and help them focus on the story. We find that all students participate in this willingly. However if they're reading this story from the book for the first time, they may run into big words that are difficult to pronounce. It will help their confidence immensely, if they've seen in at least once before and know how to tackle it. So, please read the story out loud to them and have them do the same back to you.
3. Continue to practice Geetha chanting. See previous blogs for practices aids or feel free to contact us.
4. Please make sure your child's book bag, books etc are clearly labeled with their name. Our books and book bags all look very similar.
Class Blog: For a repository of past class discussions (for all Balavihar grades), we have a Chinmaya Vrindavan Teacher's Blog located here
That is all for this week. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for helping make this Chinmaya Balavihar program possible.
Sincerely,
Yamuna and Raj
