10/6/18

Oct 5th - Grade 6 (Friday)

Hariom Parents,
It is close to a month since the start of Balavihar 2018. We have had 4 session so far and per the curriculum we were to complete the review of the Mahabharata part 1  (Adi Parva, Sabha Parva and Vana Parva). Happy to say that we are on schedule.
We started our session with Likhita Japa and Given that we have Navratri coming up we chose to do the Likhita Japa on Goddess Durga – Jai Durga Ma. Following this we did our Starting prayers, Attendance and took the initial 15 mins to summarize the three parva's which we have been discussing in previous sessions and was a review of the topics covered last year. We then started on the first portion of the Virat Parva and we will continue this in the following sessions as well.  The intent is to complete the Mahabharata discussion by end of this calendar year. We also had a brief discussion on the temples that the children know off or have visited etc. We will have a detailed discussion on the temples of India and all this initial ask of the youths to talk about the temple is a prep toward that session.
We concluded our session with closing prayers. We had to disperse 15 mins early as there was Presentation on CORD walkthon in the assembly hall followed by the Aarthi and Pledge. We also shared the Mahabhrata handbook/Workbook with the children that did not have them and request all of you to ensure that they take a few mins every week to read the topic of discussion. This will help them be better prepared for the Balavihar class as well.  Parents could read those and discuss with the children as well. This is optional but if done it would help  children with the learning.
Please note that there is no Balaivhar Next week  - Happy Navrathri to all of you. we meet the week after next (Oct 19th)  and would have Saraswathi Pooja in the assembly hall. Thus, request all children to come in Indian Traditional dress for the Saraswathi Puja.

Thanks and Regards
Shankar and Harinee.
