Hari Om! Parents,
The following are details of what Purnima and I did in the class
· We started our class with our opening prayers followed by Vaidika invocations/dhyana shlokas and on Lord Shiva
· Taught Om Namaste astubhagavan… from Sri Rudram. The children picked up the chanting with the intonations quickly
· Chanted Trayambakam together as a class for the children who had Sep. birthdays.
· Started Lingashtakam. We chanted the first 2 verses.
· We then moved on to a quick recap of our last class. We asked the children to narrate some of the stories from last week. The children responded very well.
· One of the topics for today was Our scriptures, our Guide. Discussed how Hinduism is a way of our life, and not the opinion of one individual. It is the science of living.
· Gave them a brief description about the various sources of our culture which included, Sruti, Smriti, Itihasa, Puranas, the Sad Darshanams etc.
· Discussed in length about Shruthi and the 4 vedas.
· As part of it we discussed the pioneers, Maharshi Vyasa's and Sri Shankara's contribution to our scriptures.
· Discussed the 3 sections of the Vedas dealing with the 3 kinds of human problems:
· Karma Kanda, to remove the impurities of the mind
· Upasana Kanda to Conquer the restlessness of the mind
· Jnana Kanda to reveal the highest knowledge.
· We will continue to discuss more on this topic as we had to end the class at 8 PM.
· Our class was one of the leaders for the house activities. Most of the children in our class were sorted into their respective houses and wore their house colored dress.
· The children participated and guided the younger children very well. They had a lot of fun.
We concluded the session with our grade leading the Pledge.
