Today we had an interesting and interactive class. Following was our agenda for today:
Opening prayers, Guru strotam
Meditation followed by the focus exercise
Attendance
Short discussion on Gurudev's quote: When we Rest we Rust. We had an insightful discussion on what it meant, and we had students write their thoughts on a index card. One of the students Ishaan Kashi shared this:
The quote, "When we rest we rust" means that if you stop doing something, you might start losing the ability to do it. If you play an instrument and you are really good but you don't play it for a long time, you will then not be able to keep your skill.
We then went to the topic of the day which consists of:
The Master Key: What happens when you forget the code of your locker? What does the custodian do? The custodian has a master key or code to open any locker in the school.
Story: Young boy who went to heaven in his dreams and learned an important lesson.
Inference: Life's master key is Self-Knowledge that sets us free.
Knowledge the master key: Discussion about various subjects and topics and what knowledge it requires. For example: What do we need to solve fraction? What do we need to know about writing chemical formula? How do we understand cells and cell organelles? We had a great interaction about what is required to understand all this and ultimately, it's the self-knowledge that will set us free.
Story: The horse who became a camel. The story is to not blindly run after desires and we need to know why we are doing what we are doing and whether we are using the smartest and best way to accomplish our goal, to reach the destination.
What makes Me smile? We went around the class and asked the students what made them smile. We got variety of answers like: Pizza, Taco bell, Dunkin donuts, Internet, Video games, phones etc. The point of the game was what made one person happy will not make the other person happy and "happiness is not in the objects, but within us.
What is success ? The students discussed what they thought success meant and they had to name a person they thought were successful. Some of the answers were: Success is something that you achieve and no one else has achieved it. Success is achieving your goal, but the goal must be worthy one.
Some of the successful people that students listed: Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Roger Federer, Parents, Mother, father, Grandparents, Olympic swimmers etc.
Bhagwat Gita Chanting with Swamiji
Closing Prayers. Aarti and pledge.
