Hari Om! Parents,We had 4 new additions to our class this week. It was so satisfying to have so many students attend the class on a Friday night. The following are details of what Purnima and I did in the class· We started our class with our opening prayers followed by Vaidika invocations/dhyana shlokas and on Lord Shiva· Taught Om Namaste astubhagavan… and Om Trayam bakam from Sri Rudram. The children picked up the chanting with the intonations quickly· We then moved on to a quick recap of our last class. This way our new friends could grasp what we taught them last week· One of the topics for today was I am the author of my life and I am the one who holds my future. I am responsible for my future and I get what I work for.· We had a discussion on this after narrating 3 stories.· Having a goal and working towards it is important, was our conclusion.· We talked on how to take charge of our lives and can become high achievers.· Pujya Gurudev was our example. We narrated the events in Gurudev's life, his divine mission and the outcome.· We have started an activity on self-introspection. We are going to be doing it very week for several weeks.· The activity comprised of writing down their analysis, detection and fixing the folly, based on the messages they have learned in class.· We gave them an example, I have analyzed I waste my time, I have detected I spend too much time watching TV, and I can fix my habit by reducing the time spent on watching TV.· We agreed to have small goals, not to be too harsh on ourselves, to make our goals achievable.· We started preparing for our annual Gita chanting competition. We listened to Pujya Swamijis chanting of the 1st 2 verses for the competition. Swamiji's Gita message was very inspiring to all of us.· We concluded our class by doing the arathi and pledge in the prayer hall with the 8th grade leading us.Two reminders for the children:· House sorting - They need to take the quiz by this Sunday. https://goo.gl/forms/MAalV0ljQJiswd2w2· Please ask the children to take the quiz so that they can be sorted into their respective houses.· The following children want to volunteer for the Garba night on October 13th.
