Hari Om parents,
We started our afternoon session with opening prayer, Guru stotram and Krishna ashtakam.
We have almost reached the end of the curriculum with a just a couple of chapters left in both our books. Since there was a break for 2 weeks we recapped what we taught the kids last and quizzed them from previous chapters. They answered pretty well which shows they are quite attentive in class and have great memory.
The topic of my 24 teachers this week was about Snake and Spider.
Generally snakes are quite and live alone. so, what we can learn from them is to say or talk only what is necessary. Silence is golden. We asked the kids that, "if we don't have anything nice to say to someone then --------". They all filled in the blank correctly by saying "its better not to say anything and be quite". Indeed a smart group of children. We then discussed about how talking less and acting more will gives one positive results with the example of the ever famous story of the race between the Hare and Tortoise.
The next topic was about the Spider, which uses its own saliva to build its abode anywhere, then lives in it and uses the same to catch its prey and then finally swallows it. This is very similar to the supreme lord who is responsible for the creation, preservation and finally dissolution of the universe.
Our topic from Krishna's book was about the The end of Kamsa.
After inviting Krishna and Balarama to Mathura on the pretext of enjoying the beautiful city through his messenger Akrura, Kamsa was making plans to kill them.
Both the brothers finally arrived in the beautiful city and were strolling down the streets who then came across a lot of people, like Sudama who was a garland maker, whom Krishna blessed for his devotion. Lord Krishna also blesses a hunchback maid to get back to her normal form just by his mere touch. They ultimately reach the amphitheater where wrestling matches were taking place. The entrance of which was obstructed by a mighty elephant which was ready to trample Krishna but got killed instead. Next, both the brothers killed Chanura and mushtika who were world renowned wrestlers and a few others and Krishna finally stood face to face with the evil Kamsa who was getting ready to draw his sword but was killed by the lord in no time.
Finally, Vasudeva and Devaki got released from the jail and were reunited with their beloved sons.
Towards the end of the class we played the silent game to see who would stay the longest without uttering a single word and being meditative. The kids did surprise us by doing well in this game. Parents should try this at home too :-)
