April 13, 2019 and April 28, 2019 - Kindergarten (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Swamiji , Parents and Coordinators:

Wishing everyone a Happy Ram Navami, and Happy New Year as we celebrated the advent of the new year in many parts of India.

Updates for April 13, 2019:

The children were in a contemplative mood and wanted to tell stories. Veer and Pujitha took the  lead and told the story about a turtle and rabbit, and another story about a rabbit and butterfly.
Then we chanted 'Om' followed by prayer 'sahana vavatu, karagre, manojavam , Rama , and krishanay vasudevaya.

We continued with the alphabet Z is for "Zeal". We brainstormed the meaning and gave the examples of olympics swimmers. Then we chanted the alphabet song. After that kids colored the Y alphabet.

We continued with the letter P, which stands for "Prayer". We explained to the children what is the significance of prayer, why it is important through a story and then did the candle example with lighter flame, explaining to the children that when we go closer to the candle light we can feel the heat from the flame, similarly, when we pray, chant slokhas, read stories of the glory of the Lord, we come closer to Him. The children also shared their own forms of prayer, such as helping others who are in need, being kind to one another, and going to the temple.

Updates for April 28, 2019:

We would like to first and foremost acknowledge and thank Mr. Girish , father of Arjun and Keshav who came over to help us in class. We are very thankful to him.

We continued with alphabet Q, which stands for "Quiet", after we started the class with Om chanting , meditation and slokha chanting.
We brainstormed the meaning of Quiet and discussed 2 kinds of quietness, one where we remain silent or without speaking, and second the quietening of the mind.

We played the SILENT game , where we showed them the cut out alphabets , S, I, L, E, N and T, and the children were able to make several words with them, and we understood that only when we are quiet we can make conversations and discuss ideas, listen to music etc. We also explained to them how when there is a lot of noise , there will be confusion and nobody can understand what the other person is saying.

We retold  a few stories to reinforce some of the concepts we learnt, such as the story of the swans who transported the turtle on a stick, and when the turtle opened his mouth by mistake he fell down, so therefore we must only speak when we are required to, or we can get into trouble just like the turtle.

We also narrated the story of the monkey and the crocodile, and how the monkey cleverly escaped the deadly jaws of the crocodile by using his intelligence. We also read a few Quotes from Swami Chinmayananda, on the occasion of his Birthday next week.We read a poem about the beauty of Spring and the importance of planting trees. We also did brain yoga and colored the letter "Q". We had a busy class and the kids enjoyed the various activities.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite all parents to come and visit the class in the next few weeks. We have only another 4-5 classes left, please do join us if time permits and we would also be glad to have any feedback / comments about the class.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us, they are precious and sweet, and we are very glad to be with them.

Hari Om,
Sevikas,
Ulka, Bhargavi and Priya
