March 15th, 2019 - Grade 1 (Friday)

Hari Om! Parents,
Our Grade 1 Class will have their annual Stage Performance on Friday, March 22nd. Please join with family and friends and encourage the children.

The class started with deep breathing, Om chanting and Sahana Vavathu. We then practiced Sri Rama Rama Rameti and Nilambuja Shyamala Komalangam shlokas. Next the class was split into girls and boys for the Daily Prayers chanting contest. Both groups chanted nicely, but still need to practice a bit more to earn all the "five stars". We then reviewed that each of the daily prayers are chanted at different times during the day:
"Karagre Vasate Lakshmi" - when we wake up
"Samudra Vasane Devi:"- before the feet touch the floor
"Gange cha Yamune Chaiyva" - during bath
"Saraswati Namastubhyam"- before leaving to school
"Brahmarpanam"- before eating
"Shubham Karoti Kalyanam"- when lighitng the lamp
"Karacharana Kritam vak"- before going to sleep at night.
When practicing daily prayers at home, you can ask them about when each prayer is chanted. The Class has now reviewed verses 41-56 (Arjuna Group) from Bhagavad Gita Chapter 18. Please register to participate in the Gita Chanting Yagna before March 24th.
We paused the Ramayana story, to do a review quiz. The children got to refresh their memories about the characters from Bala, Ayodhya, Aranya, Kishkindha and Sundara Kandas. Questions were about the places Lord Rama had been to, people who helped him and names of "all those rakshasas that Lord Rama killed".  The boys did better than the girls and even got a couple of "steals" in the quiz! Next we took attendance and had a practice for the stage performance. You can reach out to us on the Whats App group if you have any questions about the character lines or costumes for the performance. The children must be dropped off in their costumes at 7pm sharp on March 22nd. Parents kindly assemble in the auditorium at 8:15 pm.

Jai Shri Ram!
