Hari Om.
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year and Happy Makara Sankranthi/Pongal/Uttarayana
In this week's class, after our opening prayers, we learned about Dhruva and how he became a Dhruva taara (North Star/Polaris). Our class got a chance to see/locate dhruva taara(Polaris) along with Saptarishi mandala (Big dipper part of Ursa Major. All the kids were very excited to learn about these stars and the constellations. If your kid is interested, the resource we used in class is https://stellarium-web.org/
Kids then learned sloka 7 of Guru stotra.
चैतन्यश्शाश्वतश्शान्तः व्योमातीतो निरञ्जनः ।
बिन्दुनादकलातीतः तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ ७॥
caitanyaśśāśvataśśāntaḥ vyomātīto nirañjanaḥ ।
bindunādakalātītaḥ tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ॥ 7॥
In the latter part of the class, we had 3 high schoolers who helped us teach the kids Gita Chapter 18 - verses 41 to 45 and we recorded the kids chanting the slokas. This will help us earn house points. As an incentive of learning the aforementioned slokas, one of the high schoolers promised to solve a Rubik's cube under one minute and delivered on the promise.
Kids watched Swamiji teach Chapter 18, Verses 57 and 58

In our previous week's class(1/6/2019) after our opening prayers, the kids took turns to read the story of Daksha's yagna, how Lord Shiva was insulted and how Sati self-immolated and the aftermath of the event.
Next Class (1/27/2019): Please note that there is no balavihar on 1/20/2019
Unto him our Best
