Dear Parents,
Today we had a full class and 6 new students. We had our opening prayers and we recapped what was dicussed in the last 2 classes.
The kids learned about śrī veda vyāsa. He is a great ṛṣi who compiled vedas and puranas. We discussed about nārada and his birth story. We then learned why and how śrī veda vyāsa wrote śrīmad bhāgavatam which consists of 18,000 verses. It describes stories of the Lord and how and why the Lord ascended on earth in different avatāras.
We progressed to the second sloka in Guru Stotram:
अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् ।
तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ १॥
तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ १॥
akhaṇḍamaṇḍalākāraṃ vyāptaṃ yena carācaram ।
tatpadaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ॥ 1॥
अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशलाकया ।
चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ २॥
ajñānatimirāndhasya jñānāñjanaśalākayā ।
cakṣurunmīlitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ॥ 2॥

Next Class (9/30/2018):
We will learn about King parīkṣit, the story of his meeting with kali, and the curse of king parīkṣit. We will practice to chant both 1st and 2nd slokas of śrīgurustotram. We will do likhita japa, meditation and a craft (time permitting). Please make sure your child has a notebook, pencils, an eraser and a small pack of crayons or color pencils. Please be on time. 3rd Grade class belongs to a House called Arjuna's Arrows. Our House color is Green. For the upcoming class, please encourage your child to wear a green color dress to represent the house spirit. Arjuna's Arrows house also has a bhajan and here is the link.
In the next class your child will know more about Arjuna's Arrows and other houses that we compete against.
