Hari Om Swamiji, Parents and Coordinators:
We had yet another excellent class this week.
We started with Om chanting and completed Om Sahanavavtu, Saraswathi Namasthubhyam and Karaagre vasathe, after which we concluded with a meditation session.
The children were able to stay quiet for almost 5 minutes and the goal is to keep increasing the time as we continue on. Please see photos attached.
We sang the alphabet song and continued with our study of alphabet L which stands for Love. We brainstormed the meaning of Love, about the difference between liking something and loving something-the depth of feeling , of gratitude and kindness, and the various actions that depict love, such as our mothers showering us with kisses before we go to school, or making our favorite dishes for us, etc.
We demonstrated the activity of making a house with sticks. The sticks just placed by itself would not bind the house, only when we glue the sticks together can it become a house, therefore in the same context a house is just made of mortar and bricks, however when we love one another the house becomes a home. The children enjoyed the activity.
We retold the story of Gandhiji's act of love to the thief, and how by showing and expressing love we can change human behavior and attitude to become more positive. Love everyone without judging them, no matter whether they are good or bad to us.
We continued Likhitha Japa with the children wring Om in their note books. Several children expressed immense pleasure in doing this, so please do encourage children to complete Likhitha japa at home too. It helps them to gain more concentration.
We also studied the letter M which stands for Mother. We brainstormed different ideas about the significance of our mothers and shared some experiences with our mothers and how much unconditional love she gives us. We retold the story about the panda bear who felt his mother's love at school (please ask the children about the secret).
We will be spending 10 minutes from next week chanting the Bhagvad Geeta Chapter 18. Kindergarten is required to be able to chant verse 41-48 for the Yagna which is on March 30, 2019. Please encourage every child to participate. We are very blessed to have Swamiji painstakingly go through every verse with us. We should take advantage of this opportunity and participate.
The website link is below. Please inform the kids that we would like them all to make an effort to participate.
Some quick reminders: Please send a box of crayons and pencils, one notebook and a bottle of water every class. Thank you!
Hari Om and thank you again for sharing your sweet children with us. We are very grateful for the opportunity to spend time with them.
