10/8/18

October 7, 2018 - Toddler / Pre K (PM Sunday)

Dear Parents,

Hari Om

This week's class started with opening prayers and Hari Om game.
We did stretches and  yoga and chanted our 3 chants:

ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः
oṃ śrī gaṇeśāya namaḥ

ॐ श्री सरस्वत्यै नमः
oṃ śrī sarasvatyai namaḥ

ॐ श्री सत् गुरुभ्यो नमः
oṃ śrī sat gurubhyo namaḥ

We revised what we learned about God Ganesha and Goddess Sarasvati and recited the 2 slokas - 'Vakratunda Mahakaya' and 'Sarasvati Namastubyam'. We discussed about our Chinmaya Mission and our Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. We learned the below new sloka.

गुरूर् ब्रह्मा गुरूर् विष्णुः गुरूर् देवॊ महॆश्वरः
गुरूरेव परंब्रह्मा तस्मै श्रिगुरवे नमः

gurūr brahmā gurūr viṣṇuḥ gurūr dev maheśwaraḥ
gurūreva parambrahmā tasmai śri gurave namaḥ

We learned that Guru is Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara. We bow to our Guru who is the eternal, Infinite Brahman.

We then recited 2 bhajans Jaya Jaya Devi and Ganesha Saranam learned in the previous class. Children loved enacting the Great God Ganapathi(action song):

Great God Ganapathi, I bow to Thee,
Elephant faced One, I bow to Thee
Delight of Lord Shiva, I take refuge in Thee,
O big bellied son of Mother Parvathi
Infinite Om, Oh I bow to Thee
You ride on your mouse and win Victory.

We chanted Bhagavad Gita chapter 18 -  41st and 42nd slokas from our handbook. At home, please watch this video on youtube and practice the slokas.

We Played meditation game and revised and identified the Sanskrit numbers.
We all enjoyed the story about Goddess Lakshmi which conveys how she loves people who are good and devoted to her and being rich or poor doesn't matter.

Kids did an awesome job putting together the 'Devi Stand-up Card' craft.
As a supplemental activity, we played 'Lakshmi Vadati' and learned  the below Sanskrit words:

उपविशतु
upavishatu
sit down

उत्तिष्ठतु
uttishThatu
stand up

उत्पततु
utpatatu
jump

हसतु
hasatu
laugh

रोदितु
roditu
cry

तरतु
taratu
swim

We attended the closing prayers at the Temple.
