Hari Om!
Please find below the update sent to the parents via WA. We were only able to collect phone numbers at the meeting as we didn’t want to delay the parents from attending the Pravachan. We now have the emails verified by them. So the updates of the following classes would be in email format.
Class 1 - 9/7/18 - 21 kids present. Summary Update
Following the opening prayers, Started with introduction of each of us teachers and kids. It was great to know that many of them have been attending Balavihar since Preschool or KG!
The kids had fun playing the icebreaker game “ I am a seventh grader. You are if you are _____ or if you do _____. They got to know common interests and ‘fortnight ‘ seemed to be the topper!
Anandi gave an introduction to what we will be learning this year:
1. Ramayana
2. Key to success
We asked the kids to share what they were looking forward to learn from attending Balavihar. Some told culture, values and knowledge about our religion. We also told them that they would immensely benefit from discussions among other students.
We also handed out this year’s handbook.
Class 2 - 9/14/18 - 23 kids present.
Summary Update:
Opening prayers. The students were welcomed into the class with a quote on the whiteboard. This week it was the Balavihar motto - “Maximum Happiness to maximum people for maximum time”. We asked the children what each of them did to achieve this. Some told they would help, keep a positive attitude, be happy themselves, distribute cake, give company to a child that was sitting alone at the table at lunch. One of them told she would do whatever would make others happy. This had to be opened up for discussion to understand that, while doing something prompted by others, they made sure it was a ‘right’ thing to do also!
Parents joined us for a brief intro today about the curriculum.
Anandhi played an interesting video ‘Dating of Ramayana’ which presents scientific evidences (using a software called Planetarium) to prove that Ramayana had actually happened long long time ago. The kids made great observations and were really amazed to know about the software and accuracy of the birthday given in the ancient shlokas.
After the video, we discussed briefly about their observations and inferences. We were happy to know that the kids had all paid keen attention.
We emphasized that kids should refrain from chewing gum as it shows lack of respect or having food or water inside the classroom as it could damage the carpet and classroom.
We concluded the class with playing the shell game which is a kind of meditation.
Regards,
Anandhi & Shanti
